Name: Zbigniew Nawrat, Ph.D
Position: Director of the Institute of Heart Prostheses Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development (Zabrze - Poland)

Associate Professor at the Cardiac Surgery and Transplantology Department Medical University of Silesia (Katowice - Poland)

Title of the lecture: "RobinHeart: A cardiac surgery robot"
CV:

Zbigniew Nawrat is theoretician physicist by profession (University of Silesia Degree in 1984), whose whole professional activity has been associated with the medicine (Doctorate of Medical Academy of Silesia in 1997).

He is author of pioneer researches in the artificial organ domain, especially heart valve prostheses and blood pumps. Polish ventricular assist device, POLVAD, was first clinically applied in 1993. He is father of a cardiac surgery robot: Robin Heart - which is the first Polish and European telemanipulator for heart surgery (assumed clinical usage in 2010). He is also pioneer in application of the computer simulation to surgical planning processes.

Zbigniew Nawrat works in the Medical University of Silesia, where he teaches his author unique in Poland lecture: "Artificial Organs", as well as in the Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development, where he is head of the Laboratory of Biocybernetics, created by himself. He is also director of the Institute of Heart Prostheses and scientific director of the "ProCordis - Center of Excellence of New Technologies for Heart Diseases Treatment”, whose owner is the Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development. He created the first industrial plant Robin Heart Service for medical robots manufacture in Poland. He is member of the Biomechanics section of Polish Academy of Sciences and organizer of many conferences and workshops, e.g. BioMedTech Silesia or Medical Robots.

He lives and works in Zabrze (Silesia region), where he was born in 1960.

Hobbies:

Football, music - he plays guitar with any rock band , which allows him to do it.
